Always on top

Several users have asked about making the SightSpeed video window stay ‘always on top’ so they can leave it open to watch while accomplishing other tasks on the pc. While this is not currently possible using only SightSpeed software, it can be done with a free program called Virtual Dimension. Here’s how:

  1. Download and install the latest version from this page.

  2. Start SightSpeed Video Messenger and open the My Camera window.

  3. On your Windows title bar, right-click on the My Camera View item. Navigate to Virtual Dimension->Properties.

  4. Select the ‘Always on top’ option.

  5. Click on the Auto-Settings tab.

  6. Select the ‘Use settings from last session’ option. Click OK.
From now own the video window will remain on top as long as Virtual Dimension is running.

$29.99 Logitech QuickCam

The Logitech QuickCam Zoom is $29.99 from Surplus Computers right now [from the FatWallet forums]. Surplus Computers has pretty solid ratings on ResellerRatings.com.

It may not be the highest quality camera around but it is supported by SightSpeed.

Changing the ringtone

This is an unsupported hack, so if your pc bursts into flames as a result please don’t call us. But it can be done and it probably won’t cause any problems.

First you’ll have to create a wav file from the audio clip. Yahoo has a guide on converting an mp3 file to wav, you’ll probably want to follow that. You may want to use a wave editor to reduce the length because the ring will continue after you’ve picked up the call. For a normal song you’ll find this very annoying.

You should exit SightSpeed after that. Then open C:\Program Files\SightSpeed\sounds in Windows explorer. Rename ring.wav to ring_backup.wav. Copy the wav file you’ve created to this folder and rename it to ring.wav.

Start SightSpeed.
